Free guide to re-size cards from A6 to Slimline and 5x7

Do you enjoy making different sized cards to give to the people you love the most?

Or are you a bit intimidated by Slimline and 5" x 7" cards because it's harder to find patterns to follow.

I recently set myself a challenge to create three different sized cards from one pattern.  I grabbed my trusty Make It From Your Heart How To books and flipped through the pages.  These books were all printed several years ago when Close To My Heart only stocked 4 1/4" x 5 1/4" (A6 size) cards so there were no measurements for the other sizes.  We now stock 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" (Slimline) and 5" x 7" cards and envelopes

I began playing with numbers and formulas to come up with a simple system for adapting the size of the pieces for a card front that would maintain the overall design and proportions of the original pattern. The challenge was to find something that was easy and catered to the fact the width to height ratios of all three cards is different so a simple scale up doesn’t work.

After a little experimenting, I came up with a simple mathematical method to do it and that’s what I explain in the first part of the video below.

Formulas are great but what if there was a better way?

But! I grew tired of applying the formula to every piece I had to cut.  I know several of my customers would struggle to follow my formula because maths is not their zone of genius.  That's when I came up with the idea of designing a cheat sheet I could refer to at any time.

I've come up with something that works for me, and I hope after watching this video, you will see how much fun it is to create matching sets of different sized cards and want to do yourself.   DON’T get scared and stop the video – the first part explains the thinking behind my system but the cheat sheet eliminates the need for you to do those calculations.  The creative process is demonstrated from the 4 min 50 second mark and it is a fun card to make, regardless of the size.

To make your life easier, I’m sharing my cheat sheet!  It now has a fancier name – it is my Card Re-sizing Guide and I’ve made it look real pretty too!  The best part is, you can download my guide for free right now.

Watch the video and then use the link below it to grab your free guide.
